![]() ![]() *BUT* it is up to developer to get advantage of the new stuff. Snow Leopard holds all of the promised wonders. Now hopefully Digi WON'T forget that, and make sure to keep those 2 things (large amount of multiple ins/outs AND allowance of a high quality converter to be your "interface" and converter) in their support and line up and concentrate on always making them better and better, because for me, they are the 2 most important things in a Audio Recording set up. These 2 reasons is why I feel HD will always be around and have a "need" to the extreme audio professional. HD is the only Pro Tool platform that allows you to use certain converters as the Pro Tools interface (like Prism or Apogee), therefore skipping the use of a Digi interface (thank god cause there crap). The OTHER MAIN reason is that most people that use HD use high quality conversion. So the point that everyone seems to ALWAYS forget is, it is the true professional MULTIPLE OUTS need that will always keep the need for HD around. I don't think they will ever do it personally. Now that is ALOT for LE to try to upgrade to. But most people that do use more outs use like 48-96. That is unless LE decides to one day support more outs. Other Case - BUT, if you do use more than 17 simultaneous outs (even less if you record at 96k), then you will ALWAYS need HD. BUT in the past, you needed HD if you just simply wanted more than 32 tracks. (And in the future especially, LE will just continue to get more powerful and soon match HD's POWER). One Case - If you do NOT use over 17 simultaneous Ins and/or OUTs - Then no, you should not buy HD once Pro Tools 8 with the "Complete Production Toolkit came out. This being said, YES I agree at one point, but disagree too, pending on what a person does. Running a amount of multiple simultaneous INs and/or OUTs above 17 is the MAIN reason anyone would need HD after 8 was released. Period ! And do it flawless with a seamless feel and keep a properly running platform while doing so with a massively large taxing session. ![]() It is the need to route out ALL your tracks independently and simultaneously to a console, AND the fact that you can skip using a low quality Digi interface and use your high quality converter AS the PT interface (Prism, Apogee, etc.). Well for some out there (hopefully most) that are HD users, it is NOT the features or just the power alone that keeps us on HD or makes us buy HD systems. ![]() If they add 64 bit and Elastic Audio to Logic 9, what's Digi gonna do to compete? ![]() I love my Pro Tools but.For $500.00 Logic keeps looking a little better. Not to mention all the plug in upgrades, If it wasn't for ADC and Elastic audio for editing drums, I would have jumped ship. It's getting hard to justify spending several thousand to update my HD cards and then a few thousand more to update my Mac that will just be out dated again in a few years. I wouldn't say the end of Pro Tools. But I can see the end of Pro Tools HD coming!! I keep hearing rumors from some pretty reliable sources that they will be adding ADC to LE in the next update. Before we used to run G4 / PT 5.1 / Mix+ / OS 9. I prefer the first.īTW - I took the step to PT HD2 7.4 / OS X / Intel Mac Pro last summer. It's a trade off - benefit by improvements / keeping downward compatibility. It multiplies the lines of code and hence the bugs. You have to pay a price for keeping legacy gear compatible. There's a difference between update and replacement part, isn't it? Where do you get the updates for your car from? :-) I love Apple products and I love Digidesign products but it seems like they are milking us for our cash a bit. Apple updates=Digi updates=Plug in updates=$$$$$$$:D My point is.It's frustrating that these companies are dropping support for their products before they even fully support their products. I don't have thousands of dollors to keep throwing at this stuff to stay current. That's nice after I just dropped $10,000.00! You spend that kind of money, you'd expect to be able to stay in the race for more than a few years right? I bet you wouldn't buy a car if you knew they would stop making the parts in 5 years right? I bought my system a few years ago, 4 months after I bought it, Apple switches to pcie.Sure I can upgrade my HD cards for a few thousand $$$. Three years may seem reasonable to you.But not to me! ![]()
